The Authorship markup (Rel=Author) has become one of the many new exciting features emerging straight out from Google’s magic box throughout the past 2 years.
First introduced in June 2011, Google’s authorship markup has become one of the many new ways of gaining additional exposure from the SERPs. More importantly, authors and writers are now able to effectively claim their online work. This handy feature is called a Rich Snippet.

If you’re a new webmaster or a business owner who has yet to implement this, then I encourage you to either read up on this article and apply what you’ve learnt, or request that your SEO agency do it for you. Essentially, by not incorporating this markup, you are potentially missing out on quality leads and converting visitors.
